EUROCLIO

Since the very beginning, EUSTORY has been in close contact with EUROCLIO, the European Standing Conference of History Teachers' Associations situated in The Hague, Netherlands, and supporting history education throughout Europe. The fruitful and regular co-operation has been very helpful to spread the idea of EUSTORY and win new members.

Historiana

Historiana is an initiative of EUROCLIO, the European Association of History Educators in which an online, interactive, multimedia tool will be developed on the learning and teaching of common themes in history and heritage.

Undoubtedly most nations in Europe count large numbers of students whose immigrant or minority families do not  share a common historical experience. To that extent, history teachers  increasingly deal with heterogeneous historical cultures as reflected by the plurality of their pupils. Indeed, they cannot simply create ‘more inclusive’ historical narratives as the diverse student population also introduces different and frequently conflicting perspectives in an attempt to give meaning to the ‘same’ events. Therefore, it is evident that a new approach towards history education based on mutual understanding and multi-perspectivity is of urgent need in the history education. Historiana will provide such an approach and also include audiovisual sources and interactive features. By doing so, it will make use of the wealth of digitized source materials by museums, archives and other heritage institutes offers unprecedented opportunities to make history and heritage tangible for students.

A team, consisting of experts from 12 countries from Europe and beyond work together on the development of educational material with an added transnational value and providing an insight in the complexity and interconnection of events in European history and heritage. The material will be designed in such a way, that it is complementary to the history, heritage and geography education curricula. The results of the authors and experts work will be presented in short lessons models tailor made for use in secondary education. The content will be presented thematically, making use of and structuring the wealth of material that is being made available online.

The first Training Course within the EUROCLIO Initiative “Historiana.eu” has been approved by the European Union. The training course is an unique opportunity to share good practices and ideas with colleagues from all over Europe and to actively contribute the development of Historiana.
